A Night Under The Stars

A Night Under The Stars 2006

"It's rare to have an event that combines the feelgood factor of supporting an evidently excellent cause with the pleasure of being at something unequivocally enjoyable in its own right."

The last five concerts have raised nearly half a million pounds for The Passage, a charity in Westminster which helps homeless people get off the streets and back to society. Stars who have appeared include Sir Roger Moore, Sir Donald Sinden, opera divas Dame Ann Murray and Maria Ewing. We have had young Musicians of the Year including the gorgeous Nicola Bennedetti as well as stars from the TV and theatre, Anthony Andrews, Patricia Hodge, Steve Coogan and Darius. Rory Bremner has also starred in nearly every show.

For our 2006 concert the theme is 'Comedy in Concert'. i.e. a mixture of music from the classical, and not-so-classical repertoire and performances from the country's most original comedians. All our stars give their performances free and so if a film or TV recording intervenes they may need to pull out. However this has rarely happened. So far we have either commitments or promises from Rory Bremner, Ned Sherrin, Rula Lenska, Maureen Lipman, Patricia Routledge and Miles Crawford and we are looking forward to musical performances from the leading soprano, Susan Bullock, and the talented young violinist Valeriy Sokolov. The Orion Orchestra conducted by Toby Purser will accompany the evening which and we welcome back Streetwise Opera, the opera company that gives homeless people a voice.

The concert will be preceded by a sumptuous reception at Banqueting House, Whitehall, accompanied by talented young musicians. After the concert, under the Reubens ceilings, there will be a fantastic champagne party with the South London Jazz Orchestra, followed by the cabaret pianist Carl Joseph performing until at least midnight. A guest appearance may also be made by Darius Danesh.

Our Royal Guest of Honour will be HRH Princess Michael of Kent who is patron of the evening.
