Donating goods and services

We are extremely grateful to the many generous individuals and organisations who kindly offer goods and services which enable us to offer the best possible support for the homeless people we work with.

For certain kinds of goods, we must comply with health and safety requirements (and we have to pay for the safe disposal of some items which we cannot use), so please read the advice below.

 For more information, please e-mail info@passage.org.uk or call 020 7592 1850.

Services

If you work for a company or organisation which would like to offer a service for The Passage, or at one of our fundraising events, we would love to hear from you – please contact our Business Director on the number above.

 Goods

If you are thinking of buying goods specifically to donate to The Passage, please consider making a donation of funds for the purpose instead, as we are often able to buy goods at lower prices due to purchasing in bulk, and there’s no need for delivery or collection.  We can also claim Gift Aid on financial donations from taxpayers, which means that the government contributes 25p for every £1 given.

If you are unable to bring items into our office, we may sometimes be able to arrange collection, particularly if the distance is not too great.

Food

The Passage provides breakfast and lunch for around 200 people every day, as well as light refreshments.  We are always pleased to receive donations of tinned and dried food, especially as we also provide these items to formerly homeless people.  If you would like to donate fresh food, please ring us in advance, as our catering service must comply with health and hygiene regulations and can only use it whilst it is still fresh.

Clothing

Our clothing store aims to offer clean, warm and comfortable clothing to our clients.  We are particularly grateful for the following in good condition:

men’s casual clothing, including shoes, as well as socks and underwear;

men’s work clothing, such as construction wear, and suits (in very good condition) for interviews.

We’re sorry that we cannot normally use children’s clothing, special purpose clothing such as uniforms, or clothing which is well worn.

Toiletries

Toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and shampoo are particularly useful.

Other items

Please call us first to discuss suitability and collection of these items:

furniture, bedding, and homewares which are new, or in used like new condition: these are much appreciated for the studio flats which The Passage runs in central London for clients who are preparing to move into their own accommodation.

sleeping bags in new, or used like new, condition: please contact us for advice about what types are most suitable.

office equipment including stationery and some furniture: please call in advance if you are considering giving office furniture, so that we can advise whether we would be able to use it at the time.

IT equipment, if it is relatively new, and fits in with the rest of our system: again, please enquire in advance, as we are required to pay to dispose of IT equipment which we cannot use.

raffle prizes for our fundraising events are extremely welcome.
